Circle Auction is excited to present Art + Antiques: Featuring paintings, prints, sculptures, bronzes, sterling, books, and antiques from collections across the Kansas City area. Highlights include original oil paintings by Robert Sudlow, Agnes Millen Richmond, Robert Daughters, Jens Sondergaard, and Lester Raymer; prints by Albrecht Durer, R.C. Gorman, Norma Bassett, and Charles Banks Wilson. The auction also features a 19th C. Pennsylvania tall-case clock, International Sterling “Royal Danish” 100 pcs. flatware set, a George Smith “Dahl” chair, and a Royal “Quiet De Luxe” gold-plated typewriter.

 

Auction Spotlight:

One of the highlights in this auction is a very large 1932 Jens Sondergaard oil painting of startled horses in a thunderstorm. Presented in a gilt frame that measures 72″ x 88″.

Jens Sondergaard was a celebrated Danish painter best known for his expressive depictions of nature’s power. He was a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, a noteworthy figure in the experimental artists cooperative Grønningen, and the recipient of the prestigious Eckersberg and Thorvaldsen Medals. Over 230 Sondergaard oils are held in the permanent collections of the art museums of Denmark.

Provenance: Sotheby’s (The Collection of Arne Schlesch, 2000), the retirement sale of Arne Schlesch (1922-2010), the noted Manhattan dealer of Danish art and antiques.
