A single owner collection of 100 original Salvador Dali wood engravings illustrating Dante’s The Divine Comedy, published in the 1960s by Editions d’Art Les Heures Claires (Paris), each individually matted and framed.
In 1950, Salvador Dali began work on what would become one of his defining series: illustrating Dante’s 14th century epic The Divine Comedy, an episodic journey through hell, purgatory, and heaven that stands as one of the most influential works in literary history. From 1960-1964, Les Heures Claires undertook the task of publishing Dali’s illustrations as wood engravings under the supervision of director Jean Estrade, becoming the first widely available edition of Dali’s famous series. Each print offered in this sale bears Estrade’s blind stamp.
Bidding open May 1st – 17th.
