Circle Auction was pleased to present our Fall 2024 Art & Antiques auction, a curated mix of fine art and objects from various distinguished collections. Bidding ended Nov. 9th.
The American art is headlined by a group of Regionalist works by Thomas Hart Benton, John Steuart Curry, Grant Wood, John Rogers Cox, and Louis Freund; a large and notable Allan Houser bronze, an immaculate folio of engravings from John James Audubon’s original plates for Birds of America, and a huge collection of Mark Hopkins bronzes. Also included in the American art offerings are paintings by Robert Sudlow, Daniel MacMorris, Marlin Rotach, Doug Osa, Wallace Herndon Smith, Will Moses, Thomas Congdon, and Thomas Corwin Lindsay; and various works including Birger Sandzen, Rockwell Kent, Cyrus Dallin, Glenda Goodacre, Frederic James, John Free, Janet Kuemmerlein and Lanier Meaders.
The European fine art includes two glass sculptures by Czech masters Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova; antique oils including Robert Hillingford, Alexander Nasmyth, Daniel Clowes, Otto Erdmann, Antoine-Pierre Mongin, Auguste-Xavier Leprince, Charles d’Agar, Josef Johann Suss, and Alexander Fraser the Elder; bronzes including Renzo Colombo, Raoul Larche, Emile Pinedo, and Georges van Der Straeten; and large posters by Carlos Ruano Llopis and Herbert Leupin. Also included are a group of Japanese woodblocks including Hiroshi Yoshida, Tadashi Nakayama, and Kiyoshi Saito.
The auction features sterling silver including a group of sculptural Buccellati pieces, Reed & Barton “Francis I” servingware, a substantial vintage Mexican tea set, and an excellent set of Georgian period condiment vases. Antique furniture includes a collection of early American Windsor chairs, 18th and 19th century English pieces, handmade wool rugs, and mirrors. Art glass including Steuben, Loetz, Lundberg Studios, Carl Radke, Orient & Flume, Lalique, and Val St. Lambert. Antique Chinese and Japanese ceramics, jade, and decorative arts. European porcelain including Meissen, Herend, and Staffordshire. Antique lamps and lighting including Handel. Collectible categories including gold and silver coins, antique violins, books, and pewter. A 1854 document signed by Robert E. Lee and Fitz John Porter.
