MODERN, CONTEMPORARY, and POST WAR: Art & Design

May 28th – June 13th

Circle Auction is pleased to present Post-War, Contemporary & Modern, a selection of modern design and contemporary & post-war art consisting of works chosen from two corporate collections, as well as consignors from around the Kansas City area and beyond.

Highlights include prints and paintings by Andy Warhol, Joan Miro, Willy Aractingi, Salvador Dali, Robert Motherwell, Elizabeth Murray, William Scott, Alexander Calder, Barbara Hepworth, and Jim Dine. Also featured is a wonderful group of Wilbur Niewald watercolors and oil paintings from his pivotal 1970s period.

Additionally offered are various sculpture, glass, and ceramics items including an original 37″ Dale Chihuly ‘Venetian’ hand-blown and applied glass sculpture, Pierre Fernandez Arman  Telemann bronze sculpture, Karen Karnes, Victor Vasarely ‘Stele’ signed number sculpture, Heather Marcus, and Lee Lyon; photography including Margaret Bourke-White, Robert ParkeHarrison, Patrick Nagatani, and Bruce Charlesworth; and modern furniture including Charles & Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen Hans, Wegner, Warren Platner, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Milo Baughman.

Included in this auction is a wide array of items crafted or collected by the artist, biochemist, writer, and polymath Wilfred Arnold.

The highlight of the Arnold estate is a one-of-a-kind set of living room seating designed and crafted by  the artist. Designed with no commercial purpose, this unique set was used in its creator’s own home for over 50 years.

Other highlights include a three Calder inspired mobiles created by Arnold.
